Earlier this week on International Women’s Day, Svenia Busson released an insightful article which looked at 12 VC funds investing in Edtech in Europe. The article highlighted that:
👉 Educapital, Brighteye Ventures and Emerge Education backed the most women across Europe over the past 5 years
👉 Only 5% of managing partners of EU-based VC firms are women
👉 The investment patterns of VC firms investing in Edtech reflect the composition of their teams (with the exception of Emerge Education)
👉 Educapital is the only Edtech-focused VC firm in Europe led by female partners

Most notable raises:
💰 India’s Emeritus, which is part of edtech unicorn Eruditus Group, raised $350m in debt. In FY21, Emeritus reached learners in more than 80 countries and offered programs through partnerships with more than 50 of the world’s top universities. As the company continues to grow 2.5x organically, it will also grow through M&A
💰 India-based Classplus raised $62m. The startup is a K-12 learning platform that offers full-stack mobile solutions to educators and helps them sell their online courses to students
💰 Italy’s Epicode School joined with US and Germany-based Strive School to rebrand itself as Epicode and raised c.$10m funding. Both companies initially trained developers and helped them find their first jobs. Now, the goal is to support techies throughout their entire careers, not just at the start (EPICODE Global)
💰 US-based startup, Immerse, raised $9m. The company is a VR language teaching and learning platform in the #metaverse used in partnership with the world’s top language schools to deliver VR English language learning experiences to students in the Asian, European and Latin American markets
